In criminal proceedings, what you say first often weighs on everything that follows. Before any interview, we look at what you are accused of, the evidence the authorities hold and your personal situation, and then decide with you how to respond: explain yourself, produce documents or use your right to remain silent.
During the investigation, we inspect the file as soon as the law allows, request the investigative steps your defence needs and challenge measures that are not justified. For a complainant, we structure the complaint and quantify the civil claims so that they can be decided together with the criminal case.
In Neuchâtel, investigations are led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Cases are tried at first instance by the regional courts, and appeals go to the Cantonal Court. Matters under federal jurisdiction are investigated by the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland.
